Tips on relocating

Relocating for a new job can be a daunting task, particularly if you are moving to another city or country that you don’t know. Don’t panic, though, our consultants have relocated hundreds of auditors over the years and we have had very few problems.

Here are our top tips to try and make this as stress free as possible:

1)    Get organised – sounds obvious, but make sure you have a plan and agenda as to what you need to do and when you need to do it by. Although you may have a couple of months before you actually make the move, by the time you have done all the paperwork and said good bye to family and friends there won’t actually be some much time as you think!

2)    Familiarize yourself with your new surroundings – if possible try and spare a few days or a week before starting the new job to get to know you new surroundings. It should really help you fit in and make sure that you are less stressed on your first day in the new job.

3)    Get someone else to do the hard work  – relocation agencies can be fantastically helpful in helping you will all the logistics of moving - finding you somewhere to live as well as helping with all the red tape such as social security, work permits, health registration forms etc.

4)    Tie up all loose ends at home before you leave – if possible, try and get most things sorted out before you leave your current location e.g. pensions, work permit, taxes, get someone to look after your pet fish!

Above all don’t panic (it can of course be a little stressful) but just remember why you are relocating in the first place – to take on a fantastic new job!
